The Egyptian Authorities have abandoned plans which would have seen tighter restrictions on visas for individual tourists entering Egypt, following protests from the tourism industry who stated that the move would have seen a fall in tourist visitors to the country.

The move would have seen individual tourists forced to obtain Egyptian entry visas from embassies in their home countries prior to visiting Egypt. The tourism saw this as a detrimental move to the countries tourism industry, at a time when Egypt is looking to restore confidence and foreign investment.

Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour, Egypt’s tourism minister, said: “Issuing a decision like this would have severe negative effects on tourism which was made obvious by the reactions from inside and outside Egypt and this led to cancelling the decision completely.”

The Egyptian Authorities are keen to restore confidence in the countries tourism industry, which has been severely affected in the past few months following the recent political turmoil. With Egypt now becoming the destination of choice for many holiday makers in recent years, the demand for property in Egypt prior to the political changes was at an all time high.
