New figures released by Spain's Minstry of Development have shown that there has been a considerable increase in residential construction building permits for the Madrid region over the period from January through to September. Whilst there has been a decline of just over 11% across Spain as a whole, the Madrid region has seen an increase of over 25% in new permits issued.

When discussing the new figures in the report, Madrid's Deputy Minister of Land and House, Alejandro Halffter stated that Madrid's figure now represent approximately 22.00% of the national total. Over the course of the same period last year, Madrid issued just over 1,000 permits, representing around 16% of the national total. Halffter said that the Community of Madrid “continues to lead in the construction of new build housing, significantly increasing the percentage it represents of the national total, amounting to seven percentage points.”
